Post Holiday Detox Tips

Fitness, General, Healthy Living, Nutrition

The holidays are over, and many of us may be feeling sluggish, tired and a little heavier from all the added stress and desserts this time of year brings. To help you get back on track with nutritious eating habits and a workout routine, here are a few tips to detox and reset your body for a healthy 2025.

Rehydrate.

“Drink water” may have been on the bottom of the to-do list this winter, but it’s never too late to make this a priority. When not properly hydrated, your body feels tired and doesn’t digest food as well. If you don’t like the taste of plain water, add lemon slices or other pieces of fruit to make it more appealing.

Cut out unhealthy foods and drinks.

Browse your pantry and refrigerator to rid those areas of calorie-dense and low nutrition foods, condiments and other processed items that your body doesn’t need.

Add vegetables and fruits to every meal.

Your detoxifications organs — kidneys, livers, etc. — need lots of vitamins to properly function. Fruits and vegetables will aid these organs in keeping you healthy and add fiber to your diet to combat bloat. The right food balance is essential to flush out the toxins from the holidays.

Intermittent fasting.

Used to jumpstart your cleanse, intermittent fasting is when you don’t eat for longer periods of time with a shorter window to consume food. This process is believed to help increase fat burn, lower insulin levels and reduce the risk of chronic disease. Intermittent fasting doesn’t have to be so extreme at first. Try eating your last meal at 7 p.m. and wait to eat again in the morning at 7 a.m. for a 12-hour-long fast. As you continue this trend, you can lengthen the time between the meals to reap more benefits.

Incorporate exercise into your routine.

Most New Year’s resolutions have “exercise” in them, but it’s important to follow through to fully detox your body. Sweating will allow your body to release toxins through pores, as well as helping lose water weight and strengthen your bones and heart. When working out, use a balance of cardio and strength training exercises to burn calories and tone muscles. Exercising will also boost your mood, helping not only your physical health but also your mental health.
