Traveling can feel long and tiring, especially when you’re surrounded by chaos. This year, whether you’re traveling by plane, train or automobile, these five tips will help keep you healthy while on the go.
Wash your hands
Washing your hands is one of the most important things you can do while traveling! Wash before you eat and after using the restroom, blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing and touching an animal. You’d be surprised how many illnesses you can avoid by simply washing your hands.
Pro tip: Because you might not always have access to a sink, soap or water, carry hand sanitizer with you as a backup!
Drink plenty of water
Stay hydrated while traveling by drinking a lot of water. Avoid sugary, caffeinated drinks. You don’t need to chug gallons of water, but try to be more mindful of your water intake. If you’re traveling by plane, don’t rely on the flight attendants to hand out beverages. Pack a reusable water bottle and fill it up before your board.
Get plenty of rest
Getting enough rest is essential to our health and well-being. Humans are not machines and tend to do poorly when they don’t get enough down time. Whether you’re crossing time zones or not, your body needs rest. Between carrying luggage and doing a decent amount of walking, traveling takes a lot out of the body. If your plans include early call times, make sure to get enough sleep the night before.
Use Disinfecting wipes
Pack disinfecting wipes in your carry on. Use them to wipe down trays, non-fabric parts of the seatbelts, hand rests, the window and the headrest of your seat. While it might seem like overkill, you’ll thank yourself later when you’ve prevented getting sick. You can also use disinfecting wipes on a bus or train seat and in your hotel room.
Pack Healthy Snacks
When traveling, it’s easy to stray from your regular diet and indulge in food that’s not the best for your body. Remember to eat healthier options to help keep your diet balanced. To stay on track, pack some healthy snacks in your carry-on bag. Not only does this keep you eating well, but it also saves you a couple bucks at the airport.
